2012 Army-Navy Football Game Includes Local Grads

Saturday's game is the 113th annual contest between the branches and features several players with ties to St. Louis Patch communities. We've got the TV time and more. See why a Lafayette High School grad will not play.

Saturday brings the latest installment of a football series that began in 1890. Army and Navy will go at it at 2 p.m. central time at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.

The game will be televised by CBS and available on Sirius/XM Radio with the Commander-In-Chief's trophy once again up for grabs. Navy has won the last 10 contests between the teams.

Navy is 7-4, and will play in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl against Arizona State while Army has struggled to a 2-9 record this season, which included tough losses to Northern Illinois and Wake Forest.

The game features several players with ties to the St. Louis area.

For Army, there's senior punter Chris Boldt, a De Smet Jesuit graduate, who has been a starter this season. Colin Linkul, a sophomore reserve defensive lineman from St. Louis Priory School, has 1.5 sacks this year. His biography on the Army website describes a history of military service in his family dating back to the Civil War. Parkway South graduate Lawrence Scott, of Ballwin, also is listed as a running back on the roster.

For Navy, Marquette High graduate Matt Warrick, from Chesterfield, is one of the defensive standouts. The linebacker leads the team in interceptions with 3, and is second in tackles, with 73.

Lafayette High graduate Matt Brewer, also a senior, has not played this season due to a suspension for violating school rules, according to an article published in The Washington Times. Brewer was referenced in the article as Navy's fourth-leading tackler a year ago, making 61 stops while forcing four fumbles; he started 10 of 12 games.

Both Warrick and Brewer received their post-graduation service assignments late last month, and will be commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants in the Marine Corps.
