Wildwood Middle Principal Resigns

Greg Batenhorst, principal of Wildwood Middle School, announces he accepted a new position in a different school district. He emphasizes the faculty basketball team was 5-0 against the students during his time at the school!

Today, in a letter to Wildwood Middle School parents, principal Greg Batenhorst announced he accepted the position of director of student services for the School District of Clayton, effective June 30.

"This is a new and different opportunity, and I think this is the best decision for me at this point in my career. This is by far the most difficult professional decision I have ever had to make," Batenhorst stated in the letter.

He stated his five years at had been the best five years of his professional career, and that he was nervous about the new challenges that lie ahead.

"Wildwood Middle School is the best school because of its outstanding students, parents, and staff. I am probably crazy to leave, but it is time for me to accept a new challenge in my life. Wildwood will forever be in my heart, and I plan on remaining connected to the school in any way I can," he indicated.

He wrote that he would do everything he can to provide for a smooth transition to a new leader.

"There are many talented people who would love to be here, so you will have some great choices for the next principal. For those of you who I have not served well these past five years, I am truly sorry for not meeting your expectations. For those of you that have had a good experience with me as principal, I am happy that I was able to serve you and the school in a positive way," he communicated.

Batenhorst stated:  "As we go our separate ways I encourage all of you to continue to be people with good hearts and open minds. If all of us can do that at the same time, true and positive change can take place even under difficult circumstances."

But he ended with one of the more important notations:  "For the record, the faculty basketball team was 5-0 against the students during my time at Wildwood. I expect the Basketball Hall of Fame will be calling soon to induct our team into the Hall of Fame. Thanks again for everything, and never forget that Wildwood Rocks!"

Batenhorst is in his 27th year in service to youth. He worked as a teacher, counselor and administrator, and was into his 17th year as a middle school administrator.

He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Creighton University, earned administrative certification from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and earned a doctorate degree in educational administration from St. Louis University. 

He also serves as an adjunct professor in the education administration program at Lindenwood University.
