Students Plant Trees at LaSalle Springs Middle
Sponsored by LaSalle Springs Middle School teachers Maryanne Moosmann and Debbie Odlum, students wrote and received Project CommuniTree grant for trees from Department of Natural Resources and Missouri Conservation Department.
Students involved with Eco Club at LaSalle Springs Middle School in Wildwood picked up shovels on Tuesday, and planted 40 trees and shrubs as part of a school beautification project.
Eco Club members' work complements the school’s new outdoor classroom pavilion and outdoor amphitheater, which opened for the 2012-2013 school year. The outdoor learning space was funded through financial assistance from the PTO, a Rockwood Schools Foundation Grant and Rockwood’s facilities department.
Eco Club student Kody Woods had fun participating in the project. “I wanted to get my hands dirty and help out,” said Woods. “I think the school looks prettier because of our work.”

Rockwood sources say the district’s facilities department helped make the planting project possible by delivering the trees to LaSalle and providing students with the tools they needed to plant them.
Moosmann said the project brought the school community together: “This was truly a team effort – with students, teachers and staff working together to make this possible. Our project will benefit our school and the environment for years to come.”
