School Supplies Shopping Nears

The Back-To-School state sales tax holiday is Aug. 3-5. Eureka and Wildwood are participating, but see which neighboring municipalities are not.

Shoppers will not pay the usual 4.225 percent Missouri sales tax on common back-to-school items during the weekend of Aug. 3-5, in just two more weekends. The statewide statute begins on midnight that Friday.

St. Louis County, Jefferson County, St. Charles County, Franklin County and Lincoln County officials elected to participate in the tax holiday as well, waiving county sales tax on qualifying items.

The sales tax exemption covers clothing, school supplies, computer software, personal computers and computer peripheral devices. For more details, click here.

Eureka and Wildwood officials are observing, or joining in, the weekend. The total sales tax in Eureka is 7.925 percent. Wildwood has two rates: 8.425 percent in Town Center and 7.425 percent throughout the rest of the city.

However, nearby Fenton, Ellisville and Ballwin are on the Missouri Department of Revenue list of those cities NOT participating—meaning retail locations there still will collect city sales tax on the sale of qualifying holiday items during that weekend. For a full list of municipalities not participating in the tax-free weekend this year, consult the department of revenue website.
