Rural Internet Poles Could Be Installed in Wildwood by August

The poles have been delivered for the six locations that have so far been finalized.

The City of Wildwood is cautiously optimistic that after months of wrangling, it has finalized the locations for six poles that will provide wireless broadband Internet service to some of the area's underserved residents.

The 100-foot Douglas Fir utility poles were delivered to the locations on Tuesday and the city is estimated that they will be fully installed and activated by mid-August, which Planning and Parks Director Joe Vujnich said would be just in time for school to start.

The six locations and the Internet Service provided associated with it are:

  • 4701 Fox Mountain Road, Bays-ET
  • 18529 Hawks Hill Road, Bays-ET
  • 18621 Windy Hollow Lane, Bays-ET (Public Utility easement) Bays-ET
  • 1918 Wild Horse Creek Road, WisperISP (Public right-of-way, near the intersection with Rieger Road)
  • 17701 Orrville Road, WisperISP  (Public Utility easement in common ground)
  • 1353 Homestead Heights Drive, WisperISP (City-owned property)
For those that will be serviced by these installations, the new broadband Internet provider will be contacting you with information about how you can and subscribe set it up in your home.

Vujnich said that while some residents have express concern about the appearance and placement of the poles, many others have also expressed happiness to see the project finally move forward.
