The hair-cutting event will involve about 34 students and will take place at Uthoff Elementary School, 1600 Uthoff Drive, Fenton, where Layfield teaches third grade.
Here's how Jay Scherder, marketing and media specialist for Rockwood, describes what's going to happen at Layfield's Uthoff Elementary School on Friday:
After her wedding, (Layfield) decided to cut her hair and donate it to help children with cancer. When she told her students, they moaned and groaned. They couldn’t believe she would want to cut off her hair. However, Christina explained why she was doing it. The students became intrigued and, before she knew it, students started measuring their own hair!
Many were excited to see that they had 8 inches of hair they could give to someone else. Now, Uthoff Valley Elementary School is teaming up with Clare’s of Clayton Salon to host a hair donation day.
There are more than 23 girls donating 8 inches or more and 11 boys buzzing their hair just to show support. Some of the children have parents who are cancer survivors as well.
The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
