Rockwood Administrator Trades Books for Barbecue This Weekend

One Rockwood School District leader in Eureka has another skill unrelated to his educational talents. Stop by the Smoking Daves BBQ booth this Saturday and Sunday during the annual BBQ Bash in Wildwood to see him in action!

Matt Dieckhaus, coordinator for Eureka-based Individualized Learning Center Alternative High School within the Rockwood School District, will be among the 100-plus barbeque competitors grilling up food at the 8th annual St. Louis Home Fires BBQ Bash held this coming weekend.

Representing Smoking Dave’s BBQ, Dieckhaus and his business partner, Wildwood resident Dave Burchardt, will compete in eight categories, including brisket, ribs, pork, pork steak, dessert, chili, chicken and the chef’s choice.

Dieckhaus and Burchardt have been friends since kindergarten.

“Our booth will be in the same place as last year – at the corner of the Wildwood Hotel’s garage, by the stairwell,” said Dieckhaus.

He said all entries must be cooked on the grill. “For our dessert, we’ll be serving bread pudding.”

Held at the Wildwood Town Center, the event is expected to attract 35,000-plus guests from across the area. The BBQ Bash also will feature live music and an evening fireworks show on Saturday.
