Renovations at Eureka High School Under Way

More parking space, and class space in general, is being created.

Dump trucks, earth movers and downed trees are all a part of the activities in front of Eureka High School this week.

The school is getting some additional, much needed, parking spots, along with six new classrooms and two up-to-date science labs.  The new parking spots, 95, to be exact, will be added to the existing 645 spaces already in use.

School representatives said the project completion date is fall of 2011.  Until then, much still has to be done.  Crews are working to clear the area, and bringing in additional rock and the foundational support needed. They also will deal with the creek that lies on the perimeter of the property.

Dennis Griffith, assistant superintendent of administrative services for the Rockwood School District, said the plan is to channelize the creek from North Drive to the North property line, which is approximated to be 250 feet.

This parking lot expansion, along with many other projects at various schools, are part of the $55 million worth of projects approved by voters when Prop 5 passed on April 6, 2010.  These projects are geared toward five main areas for Rockwood properties:
