Public Safety Agencies Teaming Up with Rockwood to Create SafetyCity

Public safety agencies in Eureka and the Rockwood School District are teaming up to create an online system that will provide first responders with up-to-date info in case of a school crisis.

On Thursday, the Eureka Fire Protection District, in conjunction with the school district and the Eureka Police Department, announced the initiative, called SafetyCity.

A press release explained how SafetyCity would work in case of an emergency. Police and fire personnel would have secure access from any smart phone, laptop or other online connected to device to the current safety plans for all Rockwood Schools in Eureka, including:

  • Crisis team member contact information, including photos
  • Evacuation locations
  • Photos along with site and floor plans that can be viewed on screen or printed
The fire protection district said it would serve as "an invaluable tool" for all first responders if an "emergency situation" were to occur at a Rockwood building.

Importantly, the online nature of SafetyCity will allow school district administrators to update it with any changes that occur to building, emergency plans or personnel.
