Lafayette Senior Earns Perfect Score on ACT

Michael Wefelmeyer's impressive achievement comes one year after he was diagnosed with Luekemia.

The following information was provided by the Rockwood School District:

Michael Wefelmeyer, a senior at Lafayette High School in Wildwood, is celebrating an impressive achievement -- a perfect score on the ACT.

''It's pretty incredible,'' Michael's father Mike Wefelmeyer said. ''It has really broadened our scope as far as possibilities go.''

Michael is planning to major in political science and hopes to put an emphasis on international studies. He has not decided what college to attend.

The road to the perfect score wasn't easy. Ginny Wefelmeyer, Michael's mother, said her son was diagnosed with Leukemia in July 2012.

''The entire Lafayette community rallied around our family,'' she said.

While Michael missed several days of school his junior year because of his illness, Lafayette Principal John Shaughnessy said, ''Michael is an outstanding young man, who has met Leukemia head on, with a desire and purpose to conquer the illness, and at the same time, fulfill his strong academic and social commitments to Lafayette High School. Michael’s perfect ACT score is a tribute to his dedication and will to do the best, and never give up. The Lafayette community is extremely proud of Michael Wefelmeyer.''

The American College Test consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student's composite score is the average of the four test scores. For a bit of comparison, in 2012 only 29 students out of 49,222 received a perfect score in Missouri.
