Lafayette High Grad Earns Missouri AP Scholar Award

This Wildwood-based student is one of two Rockwood School District students to earn this distinguished statewide award, and he is one of only three recipients in Missouri.

Richard Lu, a 2012 graduate of Lafayette High School in Wildwood, is one of two Rockwood School District graduates to earn the State AP Scholar Award through the College Board. Only three students in Missouri achieved this milestone.

Additionally, only 108 students nationwide received this award, which is based on their outstanding performance on the 2012 Advanced Placement exams, according to a Rockwood announcement. This award is granted to the top students that score a 3 or higher on the greatest number of AP exams, and then the highest average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken.

“This is a significant accomplishment for these students, their teachers and their families,” said Rockwood Superintendent Bruce Borchers in the announcement. “It represents an enormous amount of time, energy and effort on their behalf as they successfully pursued Advanced Placement coursework.”

According to school records, Lu is attending Princeton University.

In 2012, more than 1,900 Rockwood students took more than 3,990 AP exams.  Collectively, Rockwood students earned a score of 3 or higher on 89.6 percent of all AP exams taken in 2012. These results exceed the state average of 65.4 percent and the global average of 61.5 percent.

The State AP Scholar Award is one of several given by the College Board recognizing high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement throughout AP courses and exams.

The other Rockwood student to receive this accomplishment is Ravali Gummi, a Marquette High School graduate. She is a pre-med major at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
