Eureka Graduate Among Elite Chosen for D.C. Seminar

A Wildwood resident and Eureka High School graduate was one of few students chosen at Southeast Missouri State University to attend prestigious seminar in D.C.

Madeline McKenzie of is among a select group of elite Southeast Missouri State University undergraduates chosen to participate in a five-day seminar in Washington, D.C., during spring break March 11-16, according to a news release from the university. The group will learn about global issues in business, the environment and politics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Students selected for the opportunity were required to demonstrate leadership involvement on and off campus, academic excellence or both, stated university sources.

McKenzie is studying for a major in exercise science. She is a junior at Southeast and would like to pursue a career as a physical therapist. She was a Jack Buck Scholar Leadership Award winner, a Presidential Ambassador, is a member of Gamma Phi Beta, Rho Lambda, Phy Eta Sigma and vice president of Community Relations on Panhellenic Council.

McKenzie is the daughter of Barry and Patty McKenzie of Wildwood. She was a 2009 graduate of .

Participants for the trip were nominated by faculty members and selected by University administrators, including Southeast President Kenneth Dobbins, Southeast Provost Ronald Rosati, deans and regional campus directors.
