Area Graduate To Speak At St. Louis Community College Commencement

Today, Jackie Stevens, a graduate of the St. Louis Community College-Wildwood campus, was chosen to address the crowd gathered at the Scottrade Center.

More than 2,800 degrees and certificates will be conferred at St. Louis Community College’s commencement exercises today at Scottrade Center, 1401 Clark Ave., St. Louis. 

Ceremonies begin at 11 a.m. A total of 2,326 associate degrees and 508 certificates will be conferred. Students who completed bachelor’s degrees through programs between St. Louis Community College and both Central Methodist University and Southeast Missouri State University also will receive diplomas during the ceremonies.

Among the student speakers will be Jackie Stevens, of Pacific, MO, who will receive an associate degree in general transfer studies from the . A member of Phi Theta Kappa, Stevens has been on the Dean’s List in recognition of her academic achievement. She participated in the STLCC Study Abroad program last fall, taking classes at Canterbury Christ Church University in Canterbury, England.

Stevens plans to attend Maryville University and major in rehabilitation services. She has been awarded the Barat Transfer Scholarship and the Phi Theta Kappa Award by Maryville. Her long-term goal is to earn a master’s degree and become a rehabilitation counselor.

Three other students also will speak at the commencement.

In addition, U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay Jr. will be recognized during the ceremonies.

St. Louis Community College is the largest community college district in Missouri, and one of the largest in the United States.  STLCC has four campuses – Wildwood, Florissant Valley, Forest Park, and Meramec – and annually serves more than 100,000 students.
