14 Rockwood Teachers Earn National Board Certification

Four of these 14 Rockwood School District educators work in Eureka or Wildwood schools. In addition Kim Lackey, Eureka High, also achieved renewal of her NBCT certification. Nearly 100 now are certified.

Fourteen additional Rockwood School District teachers earned the profession’s top honor in teaching excellence—National Board Certification—according to a district announcement. Those educators are:

• Steve Bruns – Rockwood Summit High
• Jon Frank – Rockwood Summit High
• Libby Guimbardo – Crestview Middle School
Alison Harris – Lafayette High
• Keith Henige – Crestview Middle School
• Cathy Kraemer – Bowles Elementary
• Sarah Majino – Westridge Elementary
Paul Stanley – Eureka High
• Patricia Stiehr – Crestview Middle School
Matt Frederickson – 
Ellen Garner – Eureka High
• Eva Johnston – Marquette High
• Stephanie McDaniel – Marquette High
• Tracy Wood – Westridge Elementary

In addition Kim Lackey, Eureka High School, also achieved renewal of her NBCT certification.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) improves teaching and student learning, as stated in the Rockwood announcement. National Board Certified Teachers are highly accomplished educators. Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review, state Rockwood spokespeople.

The NBPTS offers 25 certificates that cover a variety of subject areas and student developmental levels. A National Board Teaching Certificate is valid for 10 years with the opportunity to renew certification. 

Since 1987, more than 100,000 teachers have achieved National Board Certification.
