Wildwood Looking to Add Fine Art to City Hall

The city is exploring a partnership with Fine Arts Club of St. Louis Community College's Wildwood campus that would feature student art works as part of a rotating display.

Looking for fine art? Why not take in a few exhibits at Wildwood city hall?

That could soon be a reality as the city of Wildwood is exploring a partnership with St. Louis Community College’s Wildwood campus for holding a rotating display of student art work at in the building’s community room.

The program would be coordinated through the campus’ Fine Arts Club, which currently displays the art and sculptures of students within its buildings and on its ground and would like to use city hall in the same manner.

The city’s planning/economic development/parks committee has endorsed the program and in a memo to the city council described it as a “win-win” for local artists, the community college and Wildwood residents.

Details of the program are still being worked out, but the city would have ultimate control over what artwork it chooses to display and would ensure they meet certain guidelines to make sure it is not inappropriate or obscene.

Any display would also include information identify the artist, the title of the work, the medium, the price (if desired) and contact details if someone has interest in purchasing it.

The city council discussed the project during a work session June 24 and a more definitive timeline for when it might be implemented will likely be established the next time it comes before the council.
