Various I-44 Lanes in Franklin County Will Be Closed Next Week

Missouri Department of Transportation crews will close all lanes on westbound Interstate 44 between the Gray Summit and Washington exits the night of Monday, July 9, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., Tuesday, July 10.

MoDOT crews will set bridge girders for the new Route 100 Bridge Replacement over I-44, which may affect and motorists.

Kara Price, MoDOT senior community relations specialist, announced Friday that following this interstate closure, MoDOT will close two various lanes in both directions of I-44 between the Gray Summit exit and Washington exit next week. During these lane closures, crews will perform preparation work to construct the driving surface for the new bridge.

• For eastbound I-44, two lanes will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., the nights of Tuesday, July 10, Wednesday, July 11 and Thursday, July 12. There will be two lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the night of Friday, July 13.
• For westbound I-44, two lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., the nights of Tuesday, July 10, Wednesday, July 11 and Thursday, July 12. There will be two lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., the night of Friday, July 13.

During these lane closures, motorists can expect traffic delays and need to alter their travel times by leaving earlier for their commute next week, stated Price in the announcement.

To avoid delays, motorists are urged to use Interstate 270 and Route 30 as an alternate route, she said.

This construction project will replace a deteriorating bridge on Route 100 (also known as Old Route 66) over I-44 located between the Gray Summit and Washington interchanges. This bridge replacement project was awarded to Fred Weber for approximately $1.3 million.

Construction is expected to be complete by mid-August 2012.

Price stated MoDOT is working with area schools to work around their spring and fall session.

"MoDOT urges motorists to watch for our orange signs and workers because they are there for a good reason. Slow down and be alert. Don’t Barrel Through Work Zones,” said Price.
