Shop Locally in Eureka and Wildwood on Small Business Saturday Nov. 24

Start holiday shopping at locally owned stores during Small Business Saturday. Old Town Eureka merchants lead the way.

Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support small businesses that help our community thrive.

American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors to continue prospering and building the local economy in Eureka and Wildwood.

"Eureka is filled with small business owners. I have seen a real movement of them banning together to strengthen their voice. Old Town Eureka is working on forming a business group to stay up-to-date on events and issues that they face," said Julie Wood, Eureka director of economic development.

"I also have had meetings with businesses like Dickey Bub and The Wallach House to figure out ways they can reach out to the community to attract local shoppers."

Wood said she sees more business managers and owners working closely with the Eureka Chamber of Commerce by attending luncheons, networking events and lunch and learns.

Last year, 100 million people nationwide participated in Small Business Saturday by shopping at locally owned stores to help boost the economy and their communities.

The owner, of course, should do whatever he/she wishes to do on his own property. I'm simply curiousRead More about Wildwood's Planning and Public Work's "guess." How does farming a piece of property instead of allowing it to sit vacant actually decrease its tax assessments? It doesn't change the zoning. What is the zoning of the property? If residential, how much corn do I need to plant on my extra property to decrease my property assessment?
