Residents Shred Paper, Save 255 Trees

Did you know each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy and 7000 gallons of water?

Wildwood is 15 tons lighter, thanks to the shredding event hosted by the and on Oct. 1.

A steady stream of cars pulled into the parking lot packed with bags and boxes of old documents, fliers, bank statements, and unwanted files. Drivers stayed comfortably in their vehicles as groups of enthusiastic volunteers swooped in to unload the paper and carry it to the shredding trucks supplied by Cintas.

Volunteers included members of the Wildwood Lions Club, the West St. Louis County Rotary Club, Boy Scout Troop 304 from , Brownie Troop 3700 from Truman Elementary School, employees of the City of Wildwood, Key Club members, students and staff from STLCC and Wildwood community members.

, , and helped keep the volunteers going strong throughout the event by donating refreshments. T-shirts donated by Dogwood Promotions made the volunteers easily identifiable. 

All of the paper was shredded on-site using Cintas’ SmartShred destruction process and will be recycled. Each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water.
