Residents Raise Concerns Over Wildwood Trail Project

The city is installing a series of wooden posts that will contain mileage data and other information along its multi-use trails.

Some residents in the Wildwood subdivision of Cherry Hills are raising concerns about a city project they said is destroying the “natural beauty” of their neighborhood.

Wildwood Planning and Parks Director Joe Vujnich said the city is installing a series of slender wooden sign posts along its multi-use trails, once of which runs through the Cherry Hills subdivision. The posts will contain information about mileage and will be also used to convey cautionary Advice.

Vujnich said the purpose of the project is to enhance the “safety and security” for the trail’s users.

However, resident Diane King told Patch that she and her neighbors were surprised to see the poles and indicated that they are more of a detriment than an enhancement, noting that they counted 37 such posts in a one mile area.

King said she understands that the city has an easement and has the right to build the poles, but noted they as homeowners have made a concerted effort to develop the neighborhood’s appearance.

“There is nothing remotely close to natural beauty with these poles literally dotting the landscape,” she said.

Wildwood residents Dale Larsen disagreed with King's assessment and posted his support for the project on Patch.

"I like the new wooden posts for mileage data," Larsen wrote. "Wildwood is a great place to live and little touches like the posts make it even better."

Vujnich said he will work with the subdivision’s trustees to address as many of their concerns as possible.
