Profile: Eureka Mayoral Candidate Kevin Coffey

This mayoral candidate says his platform is to "keep Eureka growing."

Kevin Coffey, incumbent mayoral candidate for Eureka, served in that role for the past eight years. Prior, he served on the city's board of aldermen.

Coffey, 54, said the collective Eureka city team has delivered on many commitments to the city's neighborhoods.

He said many city projects already are bid out, and others are in active planning. His list of new companies that more recently located in Eureka is quite long, and includes examples such as St. Louis Bread Co., Patients First, Arby's, Dickey Bub, Snap Fitness, DaVita Dialysis Clinic, Walgreen's, The Sports and Physical Therapy Center, Cenveo, Eureka Urgent Care and now Culver's restaurant.

His more recent related efforts to attract commerce include new parking in old town Eureka and Forby Road reconstruction, he said.

"We always expect to encounter challenges. These will be overcome with knowledge, commitment and experience. A planner at St. Louis County compared us (Eureka) to the 'Energizer Bunny.' When combined with the experience and professionalism of the board of aldermen and city staff, I consider that indeed a high compliment," said Coffey in campaign materials.

Coffey said the city's new director of economic development is making headway, and several new parks have opened along with improvements to existing parks and trails.

He works at United Parcel Service. He and his wife have three children.
