With just a couple of months until the general election, St. Louis County Board of Elections officials are putting out an early call for poll workers for Nov. 6.
According to an article in the Riverfront Times, Election Director Rita Days anticipates a shortage of 1,000 poll workers due to the high stakes election as well as sickness or conflicts on Election Night.
"We're doing the very best we can but we do need the assistance of the public to come forward and give us some of their time," Days said.
The position pays between $130 and $180, depending on the position, and provides a stipend for the required training, according to the article.
Workers must declare one of two major political parties and be a registered Missouri voter. On Election Day, poll workers work 5 a.m. until polls close and equipment is packed up.
Poll workers help check in voters, operate the voting machines, hand out ballots and reload machines.
