Planning & Zoning Commissioners Reappointed

Three Eureka Planning & Zoning Commissioners continue with their service to the municipality's businesses and residents.

Three of Eureka's planning & zoning commissioners were reappointed at Tuesday's board of aldermen meeting.

Returning commissioners are:  Mark Schmiedeskamp, Fred Svoboda and Bryan Kiefer.

The commission is chaired by Ken Knapp. Board of alderman Wes Sir serves as the aldermanic representative.

All commission meetings are held on the Wednesday of the week following a week of a board of aldermen meeting. The group often reviews business-related special use applications.

"It is a great honor to serve the city of Eureka," said Kiefer, who said he has been involved with different groups in the community.

"I love this city, and helping in its growth is what it is all about," he said.

Kiefer said his 30-plus years of construction work motivated him to get involved with the commission, and that his experience helps him make city-oriented decisions from an informed platform.

"I attend city meetings to listen, and to learn how to secure the future of Eureka," said Kiefer. "It will always be my passion to help out the city I have grown to love."

The owner, of course, should do whatever he/she wishes to do on his own property. I'm simply curiousRead More about Wildwood's Planning and Public Work's "guess." How does farming a piece of property instead of allowing it to sit vacant actually decrease its tax assessments? It doesn't change the zoning. What is the zoning of the property? If residential, how much corn do I need to plant on my extra property to decrease my property assessment?
