Patriots' Festival Scheduled

Eureka-based nonprofit group asks Eureka board of aldermen for permission to host outdoor concert and festival June 10.

Jeannine Huskey, representing the Citizen Alliance for Missouri Patriots, requested permission at Tuesday's Eureka board of aldermen meeting to hold an outdoor concert and family festival on June 10 at Kircher Park.

She said a number of groups would be co-sponsoring the event, including the St. Louis Homeschoolers organization. She said the Lewis and Clark Fife and Drum Corps is scheduled to perform.

The alliance is a nonprofit group dedicated to educating the public about America's roots, said Huskey, who heads the organization's efforts from her Eureka home. It formerly operated under the name The Eureka Tea Party.

According to the group's website, The Eureka Tea Party was organized to give ordinary American citizens a platform from which their voices could be heard by their government.  The site states:  "Caught up in the demands of everyday life, people often feel disconnected from their elected representatives, and watch in helpless frustration as their government takes bigger and bolder steps away from the principles enunciated by the Founding Fathers in our Constitution." The site then lists 10 "demands" of U.S. Government.

Eureka aldermen asked questions at the meeting about the alliance's typical activities. "We mostly have rallies with speakers," Huskey said.

City administrator Craig Sabo asked Huskey to ensure that she follows the recommendations of Eureka's parks and recreation director, Missy Rathman, regarding placing the stage on a hard surface.

Huskey's request for the June event was approved by aldermen, pending approval of the final layout for the event at the park.

She said the timing of the event is beneficial, due to highlighting to children why they should be thankful for what they will celebrate at the Fourth of July the following month.
