Open House Tuesday on Western Greenway Trail Expansion

The Great Rivers Greenway has proposed a single, unified thoroughfare for bikers and pedestrians to connect West County's parks and trail systems.

An ambitious new project from the Great Rivers Greenway is seeking to link up west St. Louis County from the Missouri River to the Meramec with one, continuous 15-mile biking, walking and running trail.

If you are interested in learning more about the planned expansion for what the public organization calls the Western Greenway, make sure to check out an interactive open house being held Tuesday from 4:30-7 p.m. at Wildwood City Hall, located at 16860 Main Street in Wildwood.

The plan calls for extending the current Western Greenway Trail from the existing Monarch Chesterfield Levee Trail, which is part of the Missouri River Greenway, to Babler Memorial State Park just south of Chesterfield, and Rockwoods Reservation and Greensfelder County Park, which are both located in Wildwood.

The end result would mean that a cyclist could start out his day at the trailhead for the Levee Trail behind the new Taubman Prestige Outlets in Chesterfield and then ride through the various parks to reach the Al Foster Memorial Trail in Wildwood, which runs along the Missouri River.

The goal is to one day connect all of the various “greenways” in to one interconnected, 600-mile system of regional trails known as the River Ring. For more information, view the full press release and check back with Patch for an update following Tuesday’s open house.
