Monarch Voters Say Campaign Signs Not Authorized

Some Monarch Fire Protection District residents say Jane Cunningham's supporters are putting campaign yard signs on private property without prior approval. Anyone have this happening to you or someone you know?

One day Marcella Bakker, a Chesterfield resident, said she came home and found an "Elect Jane Cunningham" campaign sign in her front yard.

Former State Senator Jane Cunningham and former State Representative Cole McNary are competing for votes for the one position to be filled on the Monarch Fire Protection Board on April 2.

"But I don't understand why it (the Cunningham sign) was put there, because I didn't authorize it," said Bakker.

She said it was the first time a candidate had placed a sign in her yard. "I don't like signs anyway, so I had it taken down."

A week ago, Patch was told issues with Monarch Fire Protection District-related campaign signs were occurring, but an immediate call to the Chesterfield Police Department only resulted in the confirmation of one registered complaint.

When Patch asked Cunningham about the concerns on Wednesday, she e-mailed on Thursday: "Police and I found out what is going on. Campaign dirty tricks."

Monarch Fire Protection District voters span Wildwood, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur, Maryland Heights and a small portion of Ballwin. Do you know of any others who recently experienced this issue with campaign signs?
