Lafayette Student Supports Santorum

One local senior was front and center in more ways than one when Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum made a campaign stop in Wildwood Saturday right before the Missouri Republican Party caucus held at Schnucks in Wildwood Crossing.

Ben Mulholland enthusiastically sold Rick Santorum buttons prior to the at the in Saturday...until he was asked to push his shopping cart of buttons to the other end of the store's parking lot instead of standing semi-near an entrance.

Schnucks' managers had decided no campaign buttons, stickers, decals or signage would be allowed inside or immediately near the store for any candidate during the Santorum visit, in attempt to keep potential controversy at a mimimum.

"This is my year (to vote)," said Mulholland, a soon-to-be 18 year-old senior at .

The Wildwood resident said he was for Santorum because "he's the underdog."

He said he secured the campaign buttons through a private vendor.

It probably felt a little odd to Mulholland to be shooed from the store, because he works there, too. He did put away the buttons to attend Santorum's actual presentation inside.
