Kiosk Project for Wildwood Town Center Reinitiated

Companies in Wildwood's business district to receive identification signage.

New kiosks to identify businesses located in Wildwood's Town Center are in the works.

At the city's Planning/Economic Development/Parks (PEP) committee April 19, Joe Vujnich, Wildwood's director of planning and parks, approached members about revisiting a project originally discussed in 1998. He said a signage package was created  for Wildwood at that time by Kiku Obata & Company. It included tenant identification signs, or kiosks.

PEP Chair Michele Bauer said it might be beneficial to "brand Town Center" with its own identifiers. She said kiosks to designate Wildwood's business community would complement the three graphic icons and tagline already established for the city.

Cost of designing and preparing a site location plan for the kiosk project is expected to be $4,400. Vujnich said three different kiosks may be required:  one near city hall, one in the New College area, and one at Wildwood Crossing.

PEP committee member John McCulloch asked if the kiosk design would be reviewed by the city's Architectural Review Board. Vujnich said that was a great idea because ARB members "bring fresh perspectives and a notice of details" to such projects.

Vujnich said the plan would be to install the kiosks during 2012.

He said a separate branding plan for Town Center also was submitted by the Kiku Obata team, and is being reviewed by the city's departmental staff.
