Hearing on Rockwood Meadows Pushed Back

The developer request that the public hearing on the residential/commercial project be continued, citing "changing development conditions."

A public hearing on a proposal for a new subdivision south of Eureka featuring an apartment complex and an assortment of commercial stores has been pushed back.

Jefferson County had been scheduled to receive public comment on The Rockwood Meadows development May 28, but Assistant Director of County Services Kristi Bales said the developer request that the item be tabled.

In the paperwork asking for the continuance, the developer stated it was “due to changing development conditions” and that they “hope to finalize these issues in the near future.”

Rockwood Meadows covers around 60 acres just to the northeast of the Missouri Route W and Route 109 intersection. According to planning documents, it would have 21 16-unit apartment buildings along with six commercial lots occupying 11 acres on the front end.

The proposal has received a positive recommendation from the county’s planning and zoning commission. Bales said a new date for the public hearing has not been set yet.

However, the property, which is currently vacant land, backs up to the banks of the Meramec River and will require a special floodplain development permit. Bales said the process will include an engineering analysis of potential flooding issues.
