Filing for Wildwood City Election Opens Tuesday

Today at 8 a.m., candidates for next spring's election may begin filing. Candidates have until Jan. 17 to declare their intentions. This election will impact all eight of the city's wards.

Wildwood's mayoral position and all eight of the municipality's wards will be affected by the upcoming spring election.

Filing for the April 3, 2012, elections opens on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 8 a.m. and closes on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m.

Candidates can file between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, between the opening and closing dates, except for when City Hall will be closed for holidays on Dec. 23; Dec. 26; Jan. 2; and Jan. 16. A filing fee of $10 is required.

Prior to filing for the offices of council members or mayor, candidates must complete a nominating petition and have it signed by no less than 25 registered voters of the residents of their Ward. Mayoral candidates must have 100 signatures from Wildwood residents. This petition must be submitted at the time of filing for office.

Signatures are valid only if obtained not earlier than 45 days prior to the first day of filing, or in this case, Oct. 30, 2011. No person is allowed to be nominated for more than one office at a time.

The four-year term of Wildwood Mayor Tim Woerther is up; he said he will be running for re-election in April. Woerther served as a member of the Phase 2 Town Center advisory board in 1996. He next was appointed to the city's Planning and Zoning Commission. He then served as a Ward 7 council member beginning in 2003 until becoming mayor in 2008.

Ed Marshall, former Wildwood mayor from 2004 to 2008, this week announced his intention to also run for mayor in April. Prior to being mayor, Marshall was a council member since 1997. He currently represents Ward 2 as a council member, and serves on the city's Administration/Public Works Committee.

All Wildwood council members serve two-year terms.

STATUS WARD 1 David Geile's term is up. Appointed member Larry McGowen's term is up. WARD 2 Holly Park's service on council has termed out. WARD 3 Tammy Shea's term is up. WARD 4 Newly appointed member Jack Clark's term is up. WARD 5 Rick Roppolo's term is up but he indicated he will not be running for re-election. Debra Smith McCutchen's appointed term is up.
WARD 6 David Sewell's term is up but he indicated he will not be running for re-election. WARD 7 Jim Kranz' term is up. WARD 8 Larry Goodson's term is up.
