Wildwood Community Garden Informational Meeting

The City of Wildwood is excited to announce that it is planning a community garden for the upcoming 2011 growing season and will be holding an informational meeting regarding this activity on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, 6:30 p.m. at Wildwood City Hall. The purpose of this meeting is to gauge the community's interest and define its role in the creation and maintenance of a successful garden.

The community garden movement has been gaining ground throughout the country. In communities, like Wildwood, people from all walks of life are coming together to work toward a common goal of educating each other and children about locally grown foods, while creating a social network to exchange information and meet new people. The City of Wildwood would like to encourage this type of community activity and again would like to gauge your level of interest and receive any input you may have to offer regarding this effort.

The City continues to coordinate the details, but has defined its community garden as a parcel of land divided into small individual plots. These smaller plots are loaned out to individuals or groups to grow vegetables and fruits, flowers, and/or herbs. The type of garden plot is up to each individual, but would require your commitment to plant, weed, harvest, and maintain it. Additionally, through its volunteers, a section will serve the community for educational purposes.
