Eureka Parks and Recreation Looks for Volunteers

The group who services the Eureka Parks and Recreation Department planned many community events for 2011.

At the monthly meeting of the Eureka Parks and Recreation board, the group discussed both the ongoing programs and those that are planned in the months ahead.

Parks director Missy Rathman noted that all of the programs, social events and classes were going well and that attendance was high.

"We're adding an evening section of our zumba exercise class; it's been very popular.  We had 44 dads sign up for our father-daughter dance, which is always a hit," said Rathman.

"We have some more big, communitywide events coming up this spring, and we really need community volunteers for these programs,” said Rathman.

There was a discussion about playing fields, improvements to Berry Park and the construction of the new Eureka Recreational Center.  "We've had some delays on both of these projects due to the recent weather," Rathman said, adding that work would continue as soon as the weather cooperates.
