Eureka Business Permits Renewed Except One

The operating permit for one Eureka business was suspended by the city's board of aldermen at Tuesday's meeting.

Eureka planning and zoning commissioners, as well as Eureka board of aldermen, worked with owners of over the past few months regarding certain, permanent building requirements. After resolution dates were agreed upon but not all St. Louis County inspection approvals were gained by the predetermined date of Jan. 17 (yesterday's scheduled board meeting), aldermen had to suspend the company's license until final occcupancy inspections and approvals have occurred. Fifth Street Motors owners sell used motor vehicles.

The company was granted a 90-day extension during a Sept. 20 meeting for completing the building. Alderman at the Dec. 20 meeting then voted to grant one additional extension, indicating the retailers license would be suspended if the work was not completed by the end of that period.

A Fifth Street representative, Don Nagle, told aldermen at the meeting they had abandoned their modular structure at 520 Abby Lane in Eureka, and had moved into the newly constructed building. Board of alderman Bob Kee, Ward 2, pointed out that Fifth Street Motors did not have final inspection approvals from St. Louis County inspectors and therefore could not be granted an occupancy permit from Eureka officials.

Nagle said he anticipated a fire marshal would be making an inspection of the new building by Friday. Mayor Kevin Coffey and aldermen said the business license would have to be suspended until a legitimate occupancy permit was granted. City Administrator Craig Sabo informed Nagle he should not be surprised if he is required to move items in the new building for any further inspections that occur this week.

Special use permits for the following businesses were approved at Tuesday's board of aldermen meeting.
