Eureka Alderman Says Thanks for 25 Years

Eureka board of alderman and former mayor Robert "Bob" Berry sends the following letter to the community.

Dear Residents:

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the opportunity to serve you over the past 25 years. I’ve served as your Alderman for Ward 1 and two consecutive terms as your Mayor from 1995 and early 2003.

I am proud of my record of accomplishment and am looking forward to continuing the progress that we see all around us. I was first elected in 1987, when the town was just beginning to see its full potential. I was able to be a part of that crucial time to make the necessary changes to make our city the best community in our area.

I was able to bridge a proud past with a bold new direction for the city. We have the best quality of life of any community in the area. We have a great park system, ball fields, and interconnecting walking trails and sidewalks. We are planning our new Recreational Center and pool to be completed next year.

We have increased our ability to better serve our community through our city newsletter. We have plans to expand our water softening capability in the near future. We have more community service events and opportunities for all our residents. We’ve hired a new Economic Development Director to help and sustain the economic viability and future growth.

We were able to hire our current City Administrator in the early 1990s. We’ve established new procedures for hiring new employees, a merit system to keep the best employees, and established job classifications for all positions.  We’ve got the most professional and qualified staff possible to serve our community.

We’ve evaluated our Capital needs based on actual needs and priorities. We’ve determined costs for each priority, and came up with a legitimate plan to accomplish these goals on a short and long term basis. We’ve got a proven track record of fiscal accountability.

We still have a long way to go to make our city the best possible community to live, work, play, and raise a family. I hope to continue the progress as your Alderman. I look forward to bright and promising future for our city.

Sincerely;

Robert A. Berry

Alderman-Ward 1
