Don’t Forget to Take Out the Trash – In Your New Toters

John’s Refuse’s new automated trash collection starts today in North Branford.

North Branford's new automated trash pickup is underway. John's Refuse delivered most of the new toters last week and began automated collection with this morning's pickup. In Interim Town Manager Bonnie Therrien's weekly report (full report will run tomorrow), she noted that delivery of the toters was a day behind.

With the new single-stream recycling barrels, residents can place all recyclable items into the blue barrels (the brown barrels are for general trash). Not sure what you can recycle? Check out the attached PDFs.

When placing the barrels at the curb, John's Refuse requests you "keep the lids closed and place the barrels as close to the curb as possible oriented as shown on the barrel lids. Leave a little space between the Recycling Barrel and the Trash Barrel."

In addition to information about the new trash pickup, the PDFs also highlight other dates to remember, including trash holidays and weeks desginated for scrap metal collection and leaf collection. Bulky waste can be put out with your toters at any time.

Tell us: What do you think of the new toters? Are they helping you to recycle more?

Craig - They were taking all of them earlier in the week but we had complaints that some people did not want theirs thrown away, as they were new. So we stopped. I would put out the old ones and write on the barrel to throw it away so they can see that quite clearly. Let me know if this does not occur. 203-484-6000. Bonnie Therrien, Interim Manager

According to today's article, put them out starting next week (Feb 4) upside down if you want them taken away. http://northbranford.patch.com/articles/john-s-refuse-to-collect-old-trash-containers

Thanks for the chuckle chris. Aren't you pretty much 'complaining' about too many people 'complaining'?
