Bluffs in Eureka Cleared

Loose and falling rock fragments were removed yesterday at the bluff area near Eureka High School and Emerald Forest subdivision.

This winter's erratic pattern wrecked havoc on the rock bluffs located near Eureka High School and Emerald Forest Subdivision.

On Monday, Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) representatives from the Eureka office cleared the boulders that recently fell down alongside Missouri Route 109.

MoDOT crew leader Steve Ashley said having an overly moist winter, combined with the ground freezing and thawing so many times, created an unstable situation in this rock bluff area.

Ashley said the boulders were being removed and taken to MoDOT property located at Lewis Road in Eureka.

Rocks and boulders aren't truly available for public consumption, he said, due to concerns about safety.
