Bandana Bash/Wildwood 5K Walk Registration Still Open

Join other participants on Saturday, Sept. 8, for the Bandana Bash/City of Wildwood 5K Walk. This inaugural event benefits two local charities:  Friends of Kids with Cancer and Leukemia 24/7. Both entities help children with cancer, as well as assisting funding for the research and care for cancer diseases.

The walk will start at in and will travel east from there through nearby subdivisions to Zicks Great Outdoors. At the finish, all walkers will be treated to a pancake breakfast at no charge, and shuttle service back to the school.

Entry fee is a $25  donation, which all goes to the two aforementioned charities. The fee also allows participants to receive a T-shirt commemorating the event, and refreshments before and after the walk.

This walk is part of the larger Bandana Bash annual event held afterward on Saturday at , located at the intersection of Clayton Road and Strecker Roads.

Lafayette High graduate Todd Zick founded in 2007 after his leukemia diagnosis to help others battle cancer by raising research money and hosting cheek-swab bone marrow registration drives.

Saturday's event includes:

• the bone marrow testing from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. that is covered by free-will donations
• burgers and brats plus fixings served from noon to 4 p.m.
• live music featuring four bands on three stages from noon to 10 p.m.
• Texas Hold'em and bingo, with registration starting at 2:30 p.m. and first call at 3 p.m.
• a pig roast from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• silent and live auctions.

Zick lost his battle with leukemia in 2010.
