Wildwood Home Struck by Lightning

All residents safely evacuated the house Thursday morning.

At approximately 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Metro West Fire Protection District firefighters were called to a report of a lightning strike that started a house fire at 1602 Wolf Trail Road in Wildwood.

The first fire crews on the scene found smoke showing from the roof of a house, said Metro West's Coordinator Michael Thiemann.

Metro West Firefighters worked quickly to suppress the fire and check for extension, said Thiemann.

“The biggest challenge faced by crews was the location of the fire. That particular area requires a tanker response” said Metro West Chief Vincent Loyal.

"We had to implement a water tanker shuttle operation so it was necessary that Metro West receive additional assistance from nearby fire districts. The West County EMS & Fire Protection District, and Monarch Fire Protection District responded to ensure adequate water supply for suppression efforts."

The alarm was determined to be as result of a lightning strike during the storms that were moving through the area.

Loyal reminds all homeowners about the importance to remember to change batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
