Trailer Truck Driver Hits I-44 Median

A motorist's medical condition caused him to have driving difficulties Thursday evening while traveling on Interstate 44.

A trailer truck driver from Rolla, MO, experienced an unknown medical condition Thursday around 8:37 p.m. while traveling westbound on Interstate 44, 0.2 miles east of Missouri Route 100, which prompted him to travel off the left side of the roadway and strike the median wall, according to authorities.

Steven Hughes, a 59-year-old driver, was wearing his seat belt, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Hughes was taken by a Meramec Emergency Medical Services crew to Mercy in Washington.

His 2008 International truck was towed from the scene.

No other motorists were involved in the accident.
