Search Helicopters Brought Out in Wildwood

Bright lights shining down on Wildwood residents near midnight prompt questions about what was happening in the dark last night.

A St. Louis County Police Department search helicopter was called out Monday night in from approximately 11 p.m. to midnight over the Missouri Routes 109 and 100 area to seek "a turned over car," per a phoned-in report.

Wildwood's Neighborhood Policing Officer Jamie Reiter said the search was prompted after working officers received a call about an overturned car somewhere in the vicinity. She said the person who phoned in the report, however, did not witness an accident.

"The caller was actually a third-party person who said they received a call reportedly from a person who claimed to be in the overturned car," she said.

Eureka-Wildwood Patch readers Tuesday morning emailed that emergency responders hovered near the area, and that there also were multiple police cars and fire trucks in the New College Avenue area near the station.

Reiter said emergency crews could not locate an accident and could not successfully get a callback from the original caller.
