Police: Man Nearly Strikes Officer With SUV Fleeing Garage

The Eureka man also is accused with stealing tools in a burglary in Eureka.

A Eureka man faces criminal charges after police said he nearly struck an officer with his SUV Monday in a Richmond Heights parking garage. The man also faces a burglary charge in Eureka.

Brian Rasdall, 32, of the first block of Hawk Hill Drive in Eureka, was charged last Monday with second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer. He also was charged Sept. 27 with second-degree burglary and misdemeanor stealing in Eureka.

Richmond Heights Police said an officer responded to a report of an in-progress theft from a car in the SSM St. Mary’s Health Center parking garage. The caller reported the man was driving a black SUV.

The officer spotted a vehicle matching the description and got out of his car to stop the SUV. The driver accelerated toward the officer, who had to jump onto a guardrail to avoid being hit.

Rasdall later was arrested by other officers.

Eureka Police Department officers said Rasdall also broke into a home in the 300 block of Cerny Avenue in Eureka May 2 and stole tools. Police said the tools were valued at less than $500.

Bail was set at $25,000 for each incident.
