Name of Wildwood Man in Police Standoff Revealed

An armed, Wildwood man who claimed to speak Arabic and threatened to shoot truck stop clerks in Missouri Ozarks now faces a Class D felony charge of making a terrorist threat, according to Pulaski County Circuit Court records.

Daniel Mark Lawson, a Wildwood resident living on Old State Road, was charged with a class D felony this week after he drove to the Oasis Truck Plaza in Richland, MO, Sunday, and threatened the truck stop's employees when they wouldn't exchange fuel with him for ammunition he offered.

When Lawson walked out of the truck stop, authorities indicated employees placed a 911 call at 3:34 a.m. Lawson then launched a brief standoff with law enforcers when they arrived.

Pulaski Sheriff Department's logs report Lawson was barricaded in his vehicle at the truck stop at 3:59 a.m. Deputies requested backup from Waynesville police and two reserve deputies. Despite having a rifle on his lap, Lawson was taken into custody at 4:05 a.m. and arrested without incident at 4:21 a.m., according to court documents referenced in an article in the Pulaski County Daily.

Lawson was charged with making a terrorist threat with reckless disregard of risk of cause, RSMo: 574.115. He is 55 years old, and could spend up to four years in state prison with a $5,000 fine, if convicted.

Pulaski Sheriff Department's deputies had requested an additional charge of third-degree assault, which was not filed by Head Assistant Prosecutor Laura Kriebs.

Deputies found a Ruger .22 caliber rifle in the driver’s seat of Lawson's Chevrolet truck, and also found a loaded Taurus .357 revolver laying on the center console where deputies had previously observed Lawson’s right hand, according to reports.

Deputies also called the Pulaski County Humane Society to assist with puppies found at the scene of the Sunday incident, according to the Daily article.

Court records and the sheriff’s log don’t cite any motives, but the sheriff’s log reports that Lawson's preliminary breath test indicated no alcohol in his system.

The Oasis Truck Stop is located at Exit 145 of Interstate 44 at the junction of Highway 133.
