Firehouse Subs was started 18 years ago by firefighters. Local franchise owners are Wildwood residents Robert and Lisa Phillips. The chain now has more than 525 Firehouse Subs restaurants in 32 states and Puerto Rico.

The donated ATV is fitted with equipment to handle both fires and medical emergencies, and will be used for off-road incidents, including medical emergencies along the many trails located in the Monarch Fire Protection District, as well as brush and grass fires, said Roger Herin, MCP, Monarch's fire marshal.

"The Monarch Fire Protection District is grateful to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for their generous donation," he said.

In 2005, Firehouse Subs established its nonprofit, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, with the goal to provide funding, life-saving equipment, disaster assistance and educational opportunities for first responders and public safety organizations.

Monarch Fire Protection District firefighters covers slightly more than 62.7 square miles and service 60,000-plus people who live in all of, or part of the cities of Ballwin, Chesterfield, Clarkson Valley, Creve Coeur, Maryland Heights, Wildwood, and unincorporated St. Louis County.
