Missouri's K-9 Teams Head to Eureka to Train

Six Flags St. Louis will go to the dogs this week—police dogs in training that is, and their handlers. The workshop will be dedicated to a Missouri State Highway Patrol K-9 team who both drowned in the line of duty.

For the sixth year, the force will host the North American Police Work Dog Association Missouri State Workshop. The event will be held April 23-27 at in Eureka.

More than 100 Police K-9 Teams from across the Midwest are slated to attend.

This year's event will dedicated to Missouri State Highway Patrol K-9 Trooper Fred Guthrie and K-9 Reed. Both drown while on flood duty in Holt County, MO, on Aug. 1, 2011. Trooper Guthrie's wife and children will be attending the event.

Officers will be training and certifying in the following areas:

  • Obedience
  • Aggression Control
  • Area Search
  • Building Search
  • Evidence Detection
  • Narcotics Detection
  • Explosive Detection
  • Human Remains Detection
  • Tracking and Trailing
