The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Meramec River near Eureka Saturday morning with the river expected to surge 21 feet above its banks by Sunday.

The flooding is a result of a deluge that has dumped 2-4 inches of rain on the area in the space of two days with another half inch expected Saturday.

The National Weather Service's gauge for the Meramec in Eureka is located in Route 66 State Park just north of the I-44 bridge. The 21-foot crest on Sunday is 3 feet above flood stage.

Drivers can expect to see flooded roadways in the area and are urged to not risk crossing them. You can help warn fellow drivers by letting us know if and where you encounter any flooded roads.

The rising water levels also come as the Eureka Fire Department and other agencies called off a search last night for a man who went missing during a float trip on the Meramec River yesterday. The search was halted due to Friday night's severe storm.
