Man Gets Third DWI For Speeding, Hitting Another Car on I-44

Police stopped Zachary Cain in Webster Groves, but his previous DWIs convictions occurred in Wildwood.

A Ballwin man faces a third alcohol-related driving offense after Webster Groves Police pulled him over on Interstate 44.

Zachary Eli Cain, 23, of the 700 block of Reinke Road in Ballwin, was charged April 25 with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender, a class D felony.

Webster Groves Police said an officer pulled Cain over after seeing him speeding and passing each vehicle on I-44 at about 10:27 a.m. Sept. 16, eventually striking another vehicle.

The officer said noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Cain, and saw he had bloodshot and watery eyes. He said Cain did poorly on a sobriety test and a Breathalyzer indicated he had a 0.162 blood-alcohol content.

Cain previously pleaded guilty in 2009 to drive with excessive blood-alcohol content in Wildwood, and pleaded guilty in 2007 to DWI in Wildwood.

Cain was arrested April 30 after charges were filed. He posted 10 percent of a $20,000 bond and was released from jail.
