Man Burglarized Home After His Daughter Goes on Vacation With Residents, Police Say

St. Louis County Police said Gabriel Lee Chadd pawned items stolen in the burglary the same day the family left on vacation.

A man burglarized a home after his daughter went on vacation with the family who lived in the Valley Park residence, police said. Gabriel Lee Chadd, 34, of the 500 block of Benton Street in Valley Park, was charged Monday with second-degree burglary and felony theft. St. Louis County Police reported that the victims took Chadd’s daughter on vacation with them. Chadd asked questions about how long they would be gone and if anyone would be checking on their home, police said. Police said Chadd broke into the home June 25 and stole numerous pieces of jewelry and $20 from the home in the 800 block of Marshall Road in Valley Park. An investigation found that Chadd pawned jewelry stolen in the burglary on the same day the family left for vacation. Chadd is being held in the St. Louis County Justice Center. Bail was set at $10,000.
