Lightning Bolt Hits Eureka House Monday

A huge lightning bolt struck the chimney of a Eureka house, but did not start the house on fire, according to a FOX 2 News report.

One lightning bolt struck a home south of during Monday's afternoon storm. No one was injured and there was no fire, but the lighting caused some damage to the home's chimney.

Fire Marshal Scott Mullins told Fox 2: “The only thing that actually happened was that it cracked the chimney and threw some bricks off.”

Mullins said the rain was good, but it was not going to solve the problem with all the heat and all recent drought. He said fire warnings will remain in effect.

Editor's Note: My family and I were driving at the outset of the storm and saw this bright, humongous lightning bolt. We said outloud:  "Hope that didn't strike a dry field."

LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE: Monarch Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Roger Herin said firefighters responded to a house fire at 5:48 p.m. Monday, reportedly caused by a lightning strike in the 1400 block of Wildhorse Parkway Drive in Chesterfield. Herin said the homeowner came home, smelled smoke and heard the smoke alarms sounding and promptly called 911. Upon arrival, firefighters found apparent lightning strike damage on the outside of the home. Damage was minimal, but firefighters had to remove some siding and wall coverings to check for fire extension.

The owner, of course, should do whatever he/she wishes to do on his own property. I'm simply curiousRead More about Wildwood's Planning and Public Work's "guess." How does farming a piece of property instead of allowing it to sit vacant actually decrease its tax assessments? It doesn't change the zoning. What is the zoning of the property? If residential, how much corn do I need to plant on my extra property to decrease my property assessment?
