House Fire Tackled by Metro West and Monarch Firefighters

A fire at a home in Clarkson Valley, near the Wildwood border, was put out by local firefighting crews. None of the home's occupants were injured, but one firefighter received hospital treatment.

Monarch Fire Protection District, assisted by , responded to a house fire in the 16400 block of Quiet Creek Ct. at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Monarch's Fire Marshal Roger Herin, MCP, said two people were home at the time of the fire; both were teenagers. He said they discovered the fire, gathered their pets, evacuated and called the fire department.

"Their quick action likely prevented much more extensive damage," said Herin.

Upon arrival, Herin said crews found fire outside on the back of the house, extending into and involving the attic. The fire crews quickly doused the fire on the outside, and worked hard to expose and extinguish the fire in the attic, he said.

"Much of the ceilings had to be removed to access and fight the fire in the attic. While the fire damage was limited to the siding, deck and attic, the home suffered extensive water damage throughout, as well as the loss of the ceilings," he said.

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital, as a precaution, due to apparent heat exhaustion, said Herin. He since was released from the hospital.

While the fire appears to have started on the exterior deck, Herin said the cause is still under investigation.
