'Heat Was On' Unsafe Driving on I-44 This Weekend

Today, the Eureka Police Department released results of participating in a crackdown of unsafe driving and driver choices on Interstate 44 for 24-hour period this weekend.

officers issued a total of 41 traffic tickets during the Interstate 44 'HEAT Is On' campaign from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.

Tickets included seven safety belt violations; 31 speeding tickets; and three other traffic violations, according to a news release issued Monday afternoon by Eureka Chief of Police Michael Wiegand.

“Law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to slow down, buckle up and never drive impaired,” stated Wiegand in the release.

Law enforcement agencies across Missouri participated in the Interstate 44 crackdown. The 24-hour effort was part of the summer long HEAT Is On coordinated law enforcement campaign designed to improve public safety.
