Eureka Fire Protection District Reaches Milestone

The district's board of directors just held their 1,000th meeting.

Eureka Fire Protection District representatives achieved a historical milestone on May 10:  the district's board of directors held their 1,000th board meeting at Station No. 1.

Deputy Chief Randy Gabel said the first board of directors meeting was held April 2, 1970, just shortly after voters had approved the formation of the and elected the first board of directors.

The first meeting was held at an initial station located in what is now old town Eureka, at 131 South Central Ave., Gabel said. The building is now called the .

The district's first board of directors elected were George Manetzke Sr., Dan Wallach, and Paul Harris.

The Eureka Fire Protection District serves communities of Eureka, Wildwood, Allenton, Hoene Springs, Crescent, southwest St. Louis County, and northern Jefferson County.
